Excellence in Teaching Award Gala 2016 Highlights

More than 200 teachers were nominated, and after a thorough review process, 10 were chosen as the first ever recipients of the “Excellence In Teaching Award.” CMSD, the George Gund Foundation, the Cleveland Foundation, and the Cleveland Teachers Union are partners in the program, which recognizes and rewards teachers who demonstrate instructional expertise, creativity, and innovation in their classrooms. An awards gala was held at the Drury Plaza Hotel Cleveland Downtown – the site of the former board of education – on November 10 for an evening to honor the remarkable teachers and help inspire others.

Beyond the well-deserved recognition, each teacher receives a $5,000 award and will be asked to commit to sharing their practice with their peers over the course of the school year. The foundations, CMSD, and CTU plan on making this an annual program. To learn more about the award, visit teachexcellenceaward.org.
