Excellence in Teaching Award Gala 2016 Highlights

November 21, 2016More than 200 teachers were nominated, and after a thorough review process, 10 were chosen as the first ever recipients of the “Excellence In Teaching Award.” CMSD, the George Gund Foundation, the Cleveland Foundation, and the Cleveland Teachers Union are partners in the program, which recognizes and rewards teachers who demonstrate instructional expertise, creativity, and innovation in their classrooms. An awards gala was held at the Drury Plaza Hotel Cleveland Downtown – the site of the former board of education – on November 10 for an evening to honor the remarkable teachers and help inspire others.

The Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes and rewards Cleveland Metropolitan School District teachers who demonstrate instructional expertise, creativity and innovation in their classrooms; who make learning engaging, vibrant and relevant for students; and whose work and accomplishments set a standard of excellence for all teachers. Its purpose is to elevate the teaching profession, to motivate and inspire teachers, to allow teachers to share best educational practices with their peers, and to enhance the reputation of teachers in Cleveland.
